JA Gusto Sum Hickory

Gusto is a 5 yr old home raised gelding. He stands 15.2hh and filling out everyday. He is by our late stallion Tejons Blue Hickory who had his ROM in working cowhorse & reining as well as points earned in cutting. His dam is an appendix mare who produces the same easy going, trainable and personable foals every time. Gusto has natural cowsense and likes to work cattle. He is a smooth mover and has a long stride and the speed when asked, otherwise he is pretty laid back. Gusto is sure footed and confident on any type of ground. He is riding around one handed, works off of leg pressure, is soft in the mouth and collects nicely. He has solid feet; no cracks or chips. No scars or blemishes.

Gusto is our go to horse. He is the first horse to greet you at the gate no matter how long of a day you put in the day before. He is as willing and eager at the end of the ride as he is at the beginning of the ride. He has a goofy, lovable personality and is just easy to have around. He has been used extensively on the ranch and was hauled to multiple brandings this past summer. He has been through all seasons of ranch work- calving, sorting pairs, branding, moving pairs, gathering/sorting bulls, pulling bulls and is now currently being used on our ranch backgrounding feedlot to check and pull calves. Gusto has put the miles in and we feel this gelding is ready to go any direction you want. Take him and make him into your dream horse! He will be a hard one to say goodbye to when the sale day comes!

He would best be suited for an intermediate to advanced rider as he can be a bit tight after time off – by no means is he a bronc, he walks out of it within a few steps after you get on! He is touchy with ears when roping (just gets worried about the rope touching them). He can also be a bit cheeky and has figured out to untie himself when tied for extended periods of time and will go pester the other horses -personality right?- so has since been hobble broke to prevent that from happening. He does tie well, just gets bored after a couple of hours. Other than those 3 things he is solid and in time will make a great horse for any type of rider.
