CEDARLEA BLUE HEN ‘CEDAR’

Cedar’s pedigree needs no introduction with greats like Gallo Del Cielo, who has off spring earnings in excess of $6 million including her grandsire Lena Gallo, Gallo Del Cielo’s highest earning son, with NRHA earnings of $178,000. On the top side, Peptos Boon Shine has proven to be a very verstaile sire with money earning offspring in the reining/roping and reined cow horse pens. Cedar has been with me since she was two. We spent her two and three year old year working on her foundation, body control and softness. She was brought along slow and correct until she was physically mature enough to go to work. She started dragging calves to the fire the spring of her four year old year. After branding season, she spent the summer with Amos Abrahamson getting formal cow horse training and polishing her maneuvers. In the fall she was back to ranch work, gathering and sorting cattle at multiple pastures. She’s quick footed, reads cattle well and excels at working a sorting gate. Mentally she can handle the pressure when things get fast, without getting hot. I can see her having a successful future as a breakaway or penning/sorting horse or send her out to be finished as a reined cow horse. Cedar is a safe mare that anyone can ride, she’s never offered any trouble. She would make a good ladies ranch mount, ride her up when needed or throw her a loose rein on the trail. She’s been hauled all over and ridden through all kinds of country. She’s sure footed and has exceptional feet. She enjoys having a job and if left bored in a pen she may crib but this has been controllable with a collar. Cedar has been an asset to have around the ranch, a true get-on-and-go horse that’s always the same, even after having time off.
