Description
BADGER, Your true “all arounder”.
Video now posted.
14.3 hh, 6 year old grade QH mare. Red dun with blaze, two hind white socks, and white roaning spot on her neck.
Badger had 90 days professional training with a liberty style trainer when she was started as a 3 year old and has spent the last 3 years with us, continuing her training and adding endless experience to her resume.
This mare is as brave as they come and you absolutely will not find a horse with more heart. She will go all day for you and do whatever you ask, even if she’s unsure.
Badger has been our “go to” horse for all the weird and crazy things we’ve done over the past couple of years. Need to pack the corgis across the river? Badgers your gal. Need a fast horse for skijoring? Pick Badger! Want to go to a liberty clinic? I bet Badger would be top of the class.
Pack a flag, dog, kid, rope, gun, loaded down saddle bags, or whatever you can come up with on this girl, she’ll gladly do it. We’ve even jumped her with zero hesitation and I’m willing to bet she’d make an excellent eventer with how brave she is.
Badger is gun broke, dog broke, trail broke, arena broke, truly all around broke. She’s a very easy ride and will soften to your leg or hands. She will sidepass, move her hip or hindquarters around, has the foundation for a nice spin and stop, and lopes off nicely. Not worried about machinery or equipment. You can lead her off the quad or out the car window. Has experience outriding with a team and wagon as well.
She’s been to multiple team penning practices and shows excellent potential to be a cutting horse. She’s very cowwy and not a hot or hard horse to ride. Has no problem going slow but if you get her going she can be a punchy little mare!
On the trail, Badger doesn’t get hot or prancey and will happily follow at the back or lead the pack! She’s gone to the mountains many times with both experienced horses and fresh colts and she’s the same reliable girl every time.
Works in a snaffle, a halter, saddled, or bareback. We’ve even ridden her in just a neck rope at the arena. You can also double on her, ride her sidesaddle, stand up or whatever crazy shenanigans you want to try.
On the ground, Badger loves her treats. Comes running to a bucket to be caught. Stands tied quietly all day at the trailer, highline, or hitching Post. Good to trim and shoe. Just throw the saddle on and away you go. No lunging or slow cinching required.
In the field, she’s zero special maintenance, doesn’t require blanketing, maintains her weight very well. Currently turned out on a hay bale 24/7 in a mixed herd. Middle/low on the pecking order. Never had any injuries, lameness, or health issues.
Just when you thought she couldn’t be any better, Badger also has a few tricks to show off!
She’s been learning to “lay down” on cue so if you’re vertically challenged you never have to worry about not being able to get back on if you’re stuck on the trail somewhere.
She also self “parks” and will pick you up off the fence or mounting block.
Badger will stay in training with continuous riding up until sale day.
Badger is one in a million. The unicorn everyone looks for. You truly will not find a more willing partner.
