Two Smart Babe

Wilma is a 6-year-old bay mare that is as sweet as she is beautiful. Standing at 14.3 hh, and stout in stature, she is built for anyone. With Wilma’s easy-going disposition and with the experience she’s been given on the ranch and in the feedlot the last couple of years, she is ready to go in just about any direction. Wilma has been ridden by both experienced and inexperienced riders, counting an 11-year-old girl.

Wilma’s pedigree is stacked with a legendary family tree. Her sire was an AQHA Superior, NRHA point earner and bronze winner. Her grandsire, Smart Little Lena, needs no introduction, and her granddam is a 2x world finalist in reining and a full sibling to Chex My Freckles. Wilma’s bottom side is lined with Peppy San Badger, Doc Bar, and Cutter Bill (NCHA World Champion). Wilma’s dam’s sire is a 7/8 brother to Gray’s Starlight, Gallo Del Cielo, and Paddy’s Irish Whiskey. Needless to say with Wilma’s pedigree her potential is endless, not only in the arena but also as a broodmare.

We have owned Wilma since she was a two-year-old and has gotten lots of exposure since. In her three-year-old year she spent the winter at a 26 000 head feedlot and the last two summers she got used at a community pasture. Wilma has sorted pairs, pulled sick animals out of pens, loaded cows to be processed, doctored cattle out in the pasture, tied off of, pulled bulls, moved cows, has went to a couple of brandings, and been to trail rides. Wilma has also spent some time in the arena and lopes nice circles, has a good stop, and works off her hind end well.
This little mare may only be 6 but already she has proven to be an easy-going horse most people can ride. Wilma is the type of horse that has more woah than go, doesn’t get worked up easily and can have time off and have no funny business when you head out on her. This fall she had an 11-year-old girl jump on her to trail cows and then pushed groups of cows into the handling system to be preg checked.

Wilma is the type of mare that gets along with everyone in the herd and doesn’t ever get pouty. She’s easy to catch, good with her feet, and simple to vaccinate and deworm. She loads good, hauls down the road well, and has spent lots of time being tied up. She doesn’t care if she’s rode by herself or in a big group. She’s been ridden in the bush, up and down hills, and crossed creeks.

Wilma has the potential to excel in many different disciplines. With her pedigree she would make a great team penning or sorting horse, and with more training could become a nice little show or working cow horse. Keep using her on the ranch or with an experienced hand could become a heel or breakaway horse. Wilma would make a great trail or pleasure riding horse for any level of rider, and she would fit right in with a youth rider wanting to do 4-H or go to local shows.
